If you are planning to get married in the UK, you may want to consider a Marriage Visitor visa as opposed to a UK Fiancée Visa. The visa is perfect for those that want:
- To marry their Thai girlfriend in the UK
- Want to give the required notice of a marriage
- If you are planning to live permanently in the UK after marriage
How long does it take to get the visa?
When applying at the British Embassy in Bangkok, you will typically get an answer within three weeks, and the earliest you should apply is three months before you plan to travel to the UK.
How long can your Thai wife or fiancée stay in the UK?
The visa allows your Thai fiancée to stay in the UK for up to six months, during which time you must get married. After you are married, the visa can be converted to a UK Spouse Visa if you are planning to live permanently in the UK, but this must be done outside of the UK.
What can and can’t your Thai girlfriend stay in the UK?
Your Thai fiancée will be able to enter the UK to get legally married. However, the UK Marriage Visitor Visa does not permit her to work, stay for longer than six months, have access to public funds or bring other family members to the UK.
